Major Transitions

Every new phase of life involves letting go while embracing the new. Any change in identity means we need to mourn our former identity. Sometimes we don’t feel ready to let go. Sometimes we are surprised that what feels like positive change is hard. Whether we are moving forward intentionally, or whether change is forced upon us, support makes it easier.

Some examples of transitions that my clients have experienced grief over are:

  • Changes that come with aging
  • Suddenly being single
  • An empty nest
  • A career change
  • Serious and/or chronic illness
  • Loss of functionality or ability to do things they enjoy
  • The world changing around them in ways that are challenging
  • Grief that the world is not changing fast enough and the problems feel overwhelming and hopeless
  • Regret over paths not taken
